Ever since our late beloved Kazuki Takahashi — the author of Yu-Gi-Oh! — put the official Studio Dice website on hiatus at the end of January 2012, none of us have been able to access its pages. Even if we manage to find related links, we're all “greeted” by a black screen with the Studio Dice logo and a brief message in both English and Japanese:
"This site is under pause. Resumption time is undecided. 休止中 (kyuushi-chuu, 'on hiatus')."
The main purpose of creating the official website was to provide updates and fulfill fan requests for Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Art — a collection of illustrations featuring Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, and Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL. The site also featured his personal sci-fi short animation project, Button, which consisted of three episodes (?). He launched the website on May 1, 2010, but it lasted for less than two years.
Despite that, beyond the digital illustrations that were later compiled and published in artbooks, Kazuki’s blog (though not always intentionally) revealed much about his personality, working relationships, and shifting, increasingly personal interests.
In this thread, I’ll be focusing only on translating Kazuki’s blog content. While what I’ve found on the internet isn’t entirely complete — some entries are fragmented or translated into other languages — and no one can access the official Studio Dice website anymore, I’ve gathered enough content to share stories about his past, and to help you remember him in a more personal and heartfelt way.
After all, I’ve received permission from him... in a metaphysical way. 🙏
Stay tuned!
