To those who lost their lives in the disaster.
To those whose whereabouts are still unknown.
To the victims who, even at this very moment in evacuation shelters, huddle together for warmth, shivering, unable to even properly eat—
As the terrifying footage of the natural disaster is repeatedly broadcast on TV, even as I tremble, gasp, and freeze at the sight of it,
I can still eat well,
I can still wrap myself in warmth.
How valuable these everyday acts truly are.
Is it that I—we—must see people and cities at the brink of death before we finally recognize that value?
The failure to manage the nuclear crisis.
The inaction of politics.
The criticisms aimed at the media.
All of these things—
They may all be a part of my, our collective consciousness.
To the victims who now face an unprecedented trial brought on by the power of nature.
To the people who, prepared for radiation exposure, are working desperately in the nuclear facilities.
To the Self-Defense Forces and volunteers working tirelessly at the disaster sites to save lives—
I want to stand with you, with that proud collective consciousness.
I believe that I—we—are being tested.
I believe that I—we—can rise up,
and we will rebuild this country.

災害で亡くなられた方。
未だ行方のわからない方々。
避難所で今この瞬間も、身を寄り添い
凍え、食料さえまともに 口に出来ない
被災者の方々。
テレビで繰り返し流される自然災害の脅威。
それらの映像に震え、息を飲み、身を凍らせようが、
おれはまとも過ぎる食事を摂ることも、
身を包み暖をとることも出来る。
その日々あたりまえの行為がいかに価値あることであろうか。
オレは、我々は、皮肉にも人々や町の断末魔を
目にしなければ、その価値にさえ気付かないのだろうか。
原発の危機管理、政治の無策、マスコミへの非難。
それらすべても、オレの、我々の集合意識の一部なのかも知れない。
自然の猛威によって、かつてない過酷の試練に立ち向かっている被災者の方々。
被爆を覚悟し、核施設で必死に働いてくれている人々。
災害現場で懸命の救出活動をしている自衛隊、ボランティアの方々。
オレも、我々も誇り高き集合意識と共にありたい。
オレも、我々も試されているのだ。
オレも、我々も立ち上がり、
必ずこの国を復興させる事ができると信じている。

在灾害中殒命的各位。
依旧行踪不明的人们。
现在这个瞬间，仍在避难所里相互依靠挨饿受冻的受灾者们。
电视里反复送出的是自然灾害的威胁。
虽然会为影像感到震惊、窒息、僵直，
但我依然能再正常不过地吃着饭，
也再正常不过地穿得和暖。
那种理所当然的日常到底有着怎样的价值。
若没有亲眼目睹人们与街道垂死挣扎的景象，我，以及我们，大概都无法感知到那个价值吧。
发电站的危机管理，政府的素手无策，指向大众传媒的责难。
这一切，
可能不过是我以及我们集体意识的一部分罢了。
因自然的猛威，而直面着前所未有的残酷试炼的各位受灾者。
冒着被炸的危险，正在核设施中拼命工作的人们。
还有正于灾害现场竭力救援的自卫队以及志愿者的各位。
我，以及我们，共享着同一个高贵的集体意识。
我，以及我们，正接受试炼。
我，以及我们，都相信着，
能再次站起，以及这个国家必然能够复兴的事实。
