Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL has started!

Did everyone watch it?

This new series has taken a 180-degree turn in tone compared to before, so I imagine fans must have all kinds of reactions.

But the story will push forward in true Yu-Gi-Oh! style, so I hope you'll all stay excited and keep watching!

Seeing Yuma and the others moving on screen, I found myself feeling a deep emotional connection.

About a year and a half ago,

I casually sketched a character in my notebook—that character turned out to be Astral.

At the time, I had no idea he’d appear in Yu-Gi-Oh! at all, but as the world and story started taking shape, suddenly I realized,

“Ah, so this is what that design was meant for.”

It was only about 10 months ago that I finalized the main characters and handed them over to the anime team.

So it feels like I’m reuniting with Yuma and the gang after quite some time.

Seeing them move so energetically on the TV screen makes me really happy.

At the same time, I can’t help but admire and say,

“Anime creators are amazing~!”

The OP and ED songs are so great too~!

I hope everyone looks forward to seeing where Yuma’s skyward journey will take him each week!

今回のシリーズも雰囲気がガラッと変わったので、ファンの皆さんの意見も様々だと思います。でも、この先もしっかり遊戯王らしく突き進んで行くので期待してほしいです！

１年半くらい前にたまたまスケッチブックに描きとめておいたキャラクターが実はアストラルで、最初は遊戯王に出すことは考えてなかったのですが、だんだん世界観が膨らんできたら、あコレありだわ！と。

10ヶ月くらい前に主なキャラクターを描いて、アニメスタッフにお渡ししました。それ以来の遊馬たちとの出会いなので、彼らが画面で元気に動きまわってるの見て、うれしい気持ちになりました！同時に、やはりアニメスタッフはすごいな〜と！

游戏王ZEXAL开始啦！

大家都看了吧？

这次这个系列的气氛有了个一百八十度的转变，我想各位粉丝也会有各种意见吧。

但是，这个故事会按照游戏王的风格继续突进，希望大家能继续期待！

虽然这次播出，俺看着游马一众角色动起来的身影，也会觉得有另一番深切的感慨呐~。

大概一年半之前，我偶尔在草稿本上撩下来的角色其实就是星光体，最初也没想过让他在游戏王里登场，但是随着世界观慢慢发展起来，就突然发现“啊，原来还有这设计。”

10个多月前才画好主要的角色，交给动画制作人。

这次与游马他们是时隔多日的重逢呢，看着他们在电视画面上充满元气地动着，我也会觉得很高兴！

同时，还是会觉得“动画人好厉害啊~！”

OP和ED的曲子好棒啊~！

How valuable these everyday acts truly are.

Is it that I—we—must see people and cities at the brink of death before we finally recognize that value?

The failure to manage the nuclear crisis.

The inaction of politics.

The criticisms aimed at the media.

All of these things—

They may all be a part of my, our collective consciousness.

To the victims who now face an unprecedented trial brought on by the power of nature.

To the people who, prepared for radiation exposure, are working desperately in the nuclear facilities.

未だ行方のわからない方々。

避難所で今この瞬間も、身を寄り添い

凍え、食料さえまともに 口に出来ない

被災者の方々。

テレビで繰り返し流される自然災害の脅威。

それらの映像に震え、息を飲み、身を凍らせようが、

おれはまとも過ぎる食事を摂ることも、

身を包み暖をとることも出来る。

その日々あたりまえの行為がいかに価値あることであろうか。

オレは、我々は、皮肉にも人々や町の断末魔を

目にしなければ、その価値にさえ気付かないのだろうか。

原発の危機管理、政治の無策、マスコミへの非難。

それらすべても、オレの、我々の集合意識の一部なのかも知れない。

自然の猛威によって、かつてない過酷の試練に立ち向かっている被災者の方々。

被爆を覚悟し、核施設で必死に働いてくれている人々。

因自然的猛威，而直面着前所未有的残酷试炼的各位受灾者。

冒着被炸的危险，正在核设施中拼命工作的人们。

On March 8th, a wrap party was held for 5D’s at a hotel in Tokyo.

So many people came, and once again, I was reminded of just how many individuals are supporting the Yu-Gi-Oh! series!

Following the original series and GX’s school setting,

5D’s took place in a divided city, with characters from different eras,

and introduced the D-Wheel, the Duel Disk on motorcycles.

The concept of Riding Duels was honestly a spur-of-the-moment,

pretty complex world and storyline—

and yet, for three whole years,

the dedicated staff kept pushing forward with passion!

I’m truly, truly grateful to all of you!

You’ll even get a sneak peek of Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL! Boom!

With ZEXAL starting in April, I had the opportunity to meet with the production staff.

This time, the director is Satoshi Kuwahara, from Tezuka Productions, and he’s creating a wonderfully upbeat atmosphere in the world where Yuma will be shining.

I’m super excited about it.

The stage for ZEXAL has shifted from the traditional Domino City to a near-future town called Heartland, and the colors in this new setting are incredibly vibrant—just looking at it makes you feel cheerful!

Oh! This just reminded me—back in high school, I once saw a job ad in a part-time job magazine for a background artist at Tezuka Productions, and I actually went to take the recruitment test in Takadanobaba!

At the time, I was seriously considering a future in animation~!

I didn’t pass, though (my drawings were just too awful back then!), but even so, that challenge remains a beautiful memory.

Skyrocketing success! That’s me! (Though it’s in the past now!)

So anyway, I truly believe ZEXAL will be a very fun series.

Please look forward to it!

ただ今、劇場版遊戯王「時空を超えた絆」絶賛上映中です！是非、友達誘って見に来て下さ〜い！遊戯王ZEXALの映像も見れますよ！ドン！

４月のZEXALに向けて、スタッフの皆さんとお会いする機会があるのですが、今回、監督を努めてくださる桑原智さんは手塚プロダクションの方で、遊馬の活躍する世界観をとても楽しい雰囲気に創って下さっているので、すごく期待しています。

ZEXALは、これまでの童実野町からハートランドという近未来の町が舞台となるのですが、その背景の色合いがとてもカラフルで、見ているだけで楽しい気持ちになれるのですよ！

実はオレ高校生ん時、アルバイト雑誌に載っていた手塚プロダクションのアニメ背景スタッフの募集広告見て、高田馬場まで採用試験を受けに行ったの思い出した！将来はアニメの仕事がしたかったんだよね〜！結果は不合格だったけど、（あの頃オレ絵ヘタ過ぎ！）

因为4月ZEXAL的播出，我有机会跟制作人员们见面，

这次，担任导演一职的桑原智是手冢PRODUCTION的人，他正为游马所活跃的世界创造一个相当欢乐的氛围，我现在超期待的。

ZEXAL的舞台，是由从前的童实野市转移到名为heart land的近未来街道，那个背景的色彩十分绚丽，只是看着就会觉得很高兴哦！

对！突然想起来了，其实我高中的时候，看见登载在打工杂志上手冢PRODUCTION的动画背景师的招募广告，还跑到高田马场参加录用考试！

我当时可是想着将来要从事动画工作的呢~！

虽然结果是不及格了，（那时候我的画太糟糕！）

不过那次挑战是个美丽的回忆！

一飞冲天！俺哟！虽然是过去式了！

于是乎，我认为ZEXAL会是个非常快乐的作品。

On the 20th, I attended the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL production press conference held in Yokohama.

I'm truly grateful to all the fans who came to the event.

Many of the staff involved in the production gathered as well, and it was quite lively.

I also got to meet the ZEXAL voice actors.

Takusu Hatanaka, who plays Yuma

Miyu Irino, who plays Astral

Toshiki Masuda, who plays Ryoga

And Mikako Komatsu, who plays Kotori (and other characters)

Hatanaka-kun, who plays Yuma, is actually a real 16-year-old high school student!

With his innocent and fresh look, he reminded me a lot of my first impression of Kazama-kun, who voiced Yugi back in the day.

It’s a wonderful thing—he’ll be growing and maturing alongside his character Yuma as the series progresses!

The opening theme “Masterpiece” by mihimaru GT is also an awesome track!

Also, there was a Yuma mascot (Hey! I said mascot! Got a problem with that, huh?!), and I even took a commemorative photo with Yuma-kun——!

I believe Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL has a fresh worldview and will be a very entertaining anime, so I hope everyone makes sure to watch it!

20日に横浜で行われた遊戯王ZEXALの制作発表会に参加させて頂きました。

見に来て下さったファンの皆様本当にありがとうございました。

制作スタッフの方々も一同に集まって、にぎやかな雰囲気でした。

遊馬役の畠中祐（はたなか　たすく）さんはなんと16才の現役高校生！初々しく純朴そうなその風貌は、遊戯役の風間君に初対面した時の印象に似てました。ZEXALの本編でも主人公を伸び伸び演じてくれていて、とてもよかったです！

遊馬くんの着ぐるみ（着ぐるみって言っちゃいけないか！）、、遊馬くんとも記念写真を撮ったぜー！

かっとビング〜！！

实在很感谢莅临参加的各位粉丝。

竟然是16岁的正牌高中生！

一副入世未深的纯朴模样，跟我和扮演游戏的风间君第一次见面的印象很相似。

他也会在ZEXAL里面一边演绎一边成长，真是件好事啊！

负责主题曲的mihimaruGT先生的《Materpiece》是首好十分好的曲子呢！

还有游马君的布偶人（我说布偶人你们有意见啊啊啊！），，（译注：高桥老师你到底有多落后哟，好歹叫COSPLAY）

我还跟游马君拍了纪念照呢——！

我觉得游戏王ZEXAL是部世界观新颖的，相当有趣的动画，所以大家请务必要看看呢！

It’s like he’s building the entire structure from scratch, yet still inks it directly with such quality!

He’s even able to depict the characters’ expressions in detail, and bring out their thoughts and emotions.

His drawing skills are top-notch—I'm impressed.

And he himself is a genuinely kind person~!

But I can also see a strong conviction in his eyes.

When it comes time to stand his ground, he never backs down.

There’s a Yuma inside his heart, too!

Each month, I look forward to ZEXAL from the perspective of a fan myself!

VジャンプでZEZALの漫画を描いてくれている三好くんのネーム、これがすごいです！もうほとんど下絵状態、そのままペン入れできるくらいのクオリティ！キャラクターの表情まで、しっかり描き込まれていて、想いが伝わってくる。画力あるな〜感心する
